The Great General Mr. Soedirman, The First Great Commander Indonesia Army just said, “We love peace, but we love freedom more.”
He said that to response of Military Aggression of Holland colonialism at Indonesia Country in the middle of year of 1945-1949.
The words those declared by him maybe having relation with latest socio-politic in Indonesia. In many times ago, some provinces in Republic of Indonesia were declared to separate from this country.
One of those provinces were successfully separated from Indonesia is Timor Leste (Timor-Timur or East Timor). For now, some provinces such as Aceh, Riau, Maluku and Papua was declare to separate from it republic immediately.
If we looking backward, the main reason of this movement is social-economic disenchantment from the peoples at those regions. The Central Government from the First President until Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was foils them by their promised when those territories will unify with Republic of Indonesia.
The first case is Aceh. The First President, Mr. Soekarno was come to this region to entreat the Aceh Peoples to help the Indonesia freedom movement. He promised them if they will joint the new country of Indonesia Republic, the Aceh Province will receiving special autonomy to arrange their territory by themselves using Syari’ah Islam (Islamic Laws).
But in the real condition, the Aceh peoples were not received that promise. This situation is motivating some peoples to declare separating movement from Indonesia Republic that called Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (GAM) which the meaning in English is Freedom Aceh Movement.
Beside that, GAM was disappointing to the Indonesia Government because of unfair share of the income from the natural resources of this region such as gas and petroleum. Aceh is a rich territory, but the majority peoples were live in the low of welfare.
The same as that condition is impact to Riau. Before this province was joint the Indonesia Republic, this peoples of Riau were live in high welfare index as like Brunei Darussalam. But after joint this republic, the Central Government was not apportioning of the results of petroleum exploration from this territory.
The movement for liberation was sounding from that land by some elites of the Riau peoples as Syarwan Hamid, Tabrani Rab, Maimanah Umar, etc. However until the sound of the liberation was pressing by the Central Government using some negotiations this movement were changing into receive special autonomy from the republic.
The Papua is also having same case with Aceh and Riau. But the Congress and Central Government was agreed to give this province the special autonomy and legally claiming Dewan Adat Papua (Papua Customary Law Assembly) as the representation as all tribes at it land.
The Maluku is having different case with Aceh, Riau or Papua. The separatism movement of Maluku was claiming by Republik Maluku Selatan/RMS (South Maluku Republic).
This organization historical movement was starting from 27 December 1949 when the Holland Kingdom was claiming the Indonesia Republic freedom as United Nation of Indonesia Republic. The RMS was supporting by the Holland Kingdom and still exists until now.
If we looking to the condition, we can learn that the separatism movement is basically start from accumulative disappointment to the Central Government.
The solution for this condition is reduce the number of poor peoples at that territory and realizing all promises those are gives to the peoples.
I agree that separatism is not right to supporting in the whole countries. But if the separatism in Indonesia is always fixing by military action, I believe it will be making the peoples at that territory more suffering and the separatism movement will be increasing.
Whatever, the peoples those are participating in the separatism movement were stills our family members. In the family, it is worst thing to hurt or kill another member. Our funding fathers were declaring Sumpah Pemuda (the Youth Oath) in 28 October 1928 will cry to see us to fight each other.
